Made in Britain
Attention all shipping! This is the original letterpress Shipping Forecast Print; often digitally imitated but never bettered – we're proud to have got there first!
The Shipping Forecast names the British sea areas covered by daily BBC radio weather broadcasts on behalf of the Meteorological Office: Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty...
It has been printed from hand-set metal letterpress type on a four ton 1950's printing press to make a truely unique product. The metal typeface we use is the same as the BBC's – a British classic.
We sell the prints at the National Maritime Museum and the original monumental version now hangs in Rick Stein and Jill Stein's Seafood Restaurant in Padstow.

The Finisterre variation uses the old sea region name Finisterre instead of Fitzroy and is printed in greys, black and stone.
The Shipping Forecast is printed onto 100% cotton Somerset Velvet paper made in the UK.
The print comes in both framed and unframed versions. Our frames are made by a local picture framing company who offer conscientious attention to detail to this bespoke size. We frame the Shipping Forecast print in solid Ash wood with a limed wax finish to give a lovely driftwood feel (frame width 1 inch/ 2.54cm). The glazing is glass and the mount and backing-board are acid-free conservation grade to ensure the cotton paper we print on does not age.
Please note that since the original photograph was taken we have sold out and have reprinted making very slight alterations to some of the names – for example South East Iceland is now larger and reads S.E Iceland.
Print Dimensions: 51 x 15.5cm unframed.
