Clare Brownlow

About

Clare paints using pheasant feathers and ink to create paintings of animals and birds full of life.

Clare has been drawing and painting since she was old enough to hold a pencil and brush. She was an Art Scholar at Uppingham and went on to study art at Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art where she specialised in atmospheric oil paintings.

After the birth of her first son in 2009, in a quiet moment in her parent’s kitchen table in Norfolk, Pheasant Feather Art was born. She picked up a pheasant feather from her father’s stash, dipped it in his fountain pen inks and started ''doodling''.

Clare took this idea back to Scotland, where she, her husband Charlie and their two small boys live. “I started painting chickens and friends’ dogs and people loved the result and suggested that I should do stationery and prints, so I did! I continued to listen to what my clients wanted and where possible put these ideas and my creations went into production. I now offer place mats, stationery, crockery and fabric. I have developed and am exploring collaborations into other exciting products”.

Clare designed the front cover for the 25th anniversary of the Scone Game Fair as well as winning the competition for the design of the front cover for the CLA game fair 2014. Shortlisted in 2014 for Wildlife Artist of the Year, Clare has worked closely with and donated paintings to a number of charities including Tusk Trust, Born Free Foundation and GWCT.

Her latest collaboration has been working with the clothing company Really Wild, where they have used her iconic fighting cock pheasants on a stunning silk scarf. She is also working with Edinburgh Zoological Society and Bowland Brewery.
