Humblesticks is an upcycling furniture and lighting studio based in rural South Wales.
Founded by husband and wife team Richard Holman and Katy Shooter in 2013, the business was borne out of their passion for Mid Century design and the belief that the age of mass production has already produced enough.
Humblesticks restores and reinvents overlooked furniture and objects to create fun, fresh, upcycled products with a distinctly 21st Century aesthetic.
Katy (a trained sculptor) and Richard (a photographer and designer) pooled their creative resources to create a brand that manages to combine ethically sound process with contemporary cool design, whist never taking itself too seriously.
Their inspiration comes from Scandinavian textile design, illustrators such as Maurice Sendak and Edward Gorey, the pop colours of 20th Century abstract expressionists and the playful graphics of Paul Rand, Stig Lindburg and Lucienne Day amongst others. Lyrics in great music often spark ideas too (as you’ll see from the titles of some of their products …).
'Whatever you call them, upcyclers, reconditioners or creative customising supernovas, Humblesticks is here to have fun as well as sell furniture.'
