About

Hector & Haddock was established in 2011 and celebrates paper and traditional printing methods. I take great pleasure in sourcing and salvaging paper ephemera: from faded Roy Rogers to discarded pages of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management, my paper collection inspires my designs.

My range includes my linocuts, screenprints and teatowels, my Punck Pun greeting cards, and my hand cut paper pictures, which have been my bestsellers since 2011. From map anchors to names cut from vintage comic books and sheet music, all of my papercuts can be personalised.

Vintage graphics never fail to inspire me: from the Big Top tent design, inspired by the antics found in the Beano and Dandy, to my jewelled, glowing Jelly range, a nod to the illustrated plates in Mrs Beeton's, every design choice pays homage to paper of the past. English literature holds a particular fascination for me, and my Lovely Words range, which includes Poppycock, Howdy, Sloshed, Wotcha and Buffoon, celebrate the unique vocabulary of the English language.

Colour dominates my work: I adore the flat colours and shapes favoured by Hergé, Keith Haring and Matisse, and am partial to a bit of neon-glow.

Linoprints are hand-printed and framed in my studio on Salisbury Plain, and screen prints and tea towels are all hand-pulled by a studio in Somerset. Water based, eco-friendly inks are used, paper is 100% recycled, and the tea towels are organic unbleached cotton. Picture frames are handmade in Hampshire, ensuring British provenance.
