A bonsai gift set featuring a living indoor bonsai tree in glazed ceramic pot, fertiliser, pruning scissors, tray, book, wire, wire cutters and care information
Great for life in or outdoors, this set will provide any budding bonsai artist with their first bonsai tree and all the basics they need to care for it. The living bonsai tree will need fertilising using the liquid fertiliser and pruning using the scissors. The drip / humidity tray will be placed under the pot. As the tree grows, it can be shaped with the bonsai wire which has been cut to size using the wire cutters.
The set comes with care information aimed at helping care for the new bonsai and a copy of The Bonsai Specialist by David Squire.
The bonsai pot is glazed ceramic pottery. Pot style and colour may vary. The scissors and wire cutters are carbon steel. The tree itself is a Chinese Elm (Ulmus Parviflora) which is native of the far east including, China, Japan and more widely eastern asia. It is approximately 12 years old. The wire is aluminium coated in layer of copper.
Success with Bonsai
Success with bonsai is all about location. Bonsai trees need plenty of natural sunlight. The best locations are outdoors, conservatories, sunny porches and south facing windows. Chinese Elms are frost hardy. Wherever you place them, make sure they receive sunlight and keep them away from radiators. We keep a few on our south facing kitchen window at home as well as in the garden. Please note that some of the locations that you have in mind may be too dark for them.
Total height of bonsai (tree & pot) will be between 30 and 40cm. The pot will be between 18 and 20cm wide. The scissors are 18.5cm long. The set comes with a 250ml bottle of Chrysal liquid fertiliser, the most popular bonsai feed in the UK. The tray is plastic and 22cm wide. The wire is of various diameters. The wire cutters are 17.5cm long
