Made in Britain
This is our newest product - deckchairs. Made on the Isle of Wight each chair is covered with recycled sail cloth. Our own brand is split colour and white cut at a striking angle as shown in the image. As always, each one will be unique!
All our products are retirement for sails and what better home for an old sail – staring out to sea watching the boats go by.
We have chosen our deck chairs with great thought to the environment and are pleased to be partnering with Southsea Deckchairs (just across the water from us).
Our chairs are solid! Not like some you get from main stream providers which are spindly and designed to last the summer. Our chairs will last a lifetime. Protection against the elements, strong and robust, durable and thus all good for the environment.
We now have a 'funky' version, so if you would like a brighter chair just choose funky. If you would like a specific design style we can normally accomodate so please get in touch.
Our sails come from a number of sources and each has its own story. Whether it is has battled the Southern Ocean, crossed the Atlantic or just sailed along the rivers it has earned the right to be turned into something beautiful. We respect old sails!
Our sails come from old dinghy schools, retired windsurfers, professional yachtsmen and women, some have been in the garage for a while some are new but have no onward market. We save these sails from being buried on the land and save our environment at the same time.
Our chairs are made from Merpauh. This is what Southsea deckchairs say about the timber: Merpauh is classified by the Timber Research and Development Association as a durable hardwood. They define durable as 15-25 years contact with the ground.
Durability is very important to our environment: frequent replacement of a deckchair is costly to our environment, not just in terms of tree felling (if used from a non-sustainable source) but all the other energy consumption involved in making and transporting a deckchair.
The Merpauh that we use is sourced from selectively logged MTCC certified forests. We are now working, with our supplier towards product certification by the MTCC. The principles and criteria of the MTCC are based on those of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
