The Margarita is the undoubtedly the most popular tequila-based cocktail. There are many stories about who invented the Margarita (and why), but our favourite is that it was created in the early 1940s in Tijuana, Mexico by Enrique Bastate Gutierrez, as an homage to the actress Rita Hayworth (whose real name was Margarita Cansino).
