This beautiful heirloom breadboard is hand-turned in sycamore especially for us by master wood turner Hugh Leishman. It is a celebration of skill and tradition, designed in the style of a breadboard remembered from childhood but with clean lines that also make it a contemporary piece.
The history of wood turning is as old as time - man first turned wood with a pole lathe thousands of years ago, Leonardo da Vinci invented a treadle lathe in about 1500 and mechanised lathes arrived in the early 1900s. The wood we use for this breadboard is fiddleback sycamore which, as it's name suggests, is the wood used to make violins.
The boards are not oiled but if you are likely to use them for cheese or anything else oily, we recommend that you oil your board with any natural oil (eg. olive, walnut) before use.
