Tweedmatters
Tweedmatters is a family business based in the beautiful north west Highlands of Scotland. We make evocative framed collages and greetings cards using a range of materials including pressed flowers, beads, our own handmade papers and genuine Harris Tweed from the Western Isles.
Harris Tweed is made at home on hand looms, only in the Outer Hebrides. It is not easy to sustain an industry which is so labour intensive and so remote from its markets, but despite these challenges we certainly hope to see these wonderful textiles made for many years to come. We hope that our pictures highlight the textures and colour combinations of the tweeds.
The main inspirations for Tweedmatters cards and pictures are the stunning Scottish landscapes and seascapes which surround us and the Hebridean tweeds, which break down into glorious, woolly strands of colour. In these strands we can see the colours of peaty heather moors, sea-loch kelp forests and misty morning mountains... honestly!...and by making our own papers we can produce the exact colours and textures we need to match our tweedy palette. Since these papers are all made from recycled materials, we hope that we're doing our bit for the planet, as well. (Incidentally, we re-use packaging and other materials as much as possible, too).
The things we sell really are a product of this special part of the world. That's why we say that Tweedmatters collages and cards are small mementos of the bigger picture.
