Ch. d'Or et de Gueules 'Les Cimels' Red - Recommended in Oz Clarke's 2008 Wine Guide and Voted in Decanter Magazine's Top 50 Wines in the World under £10. A delicious, smooth, unoaked blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan as also found in Chateauneuf du Papes. It will be hard to find a better wine from the Rhone Valley. We love it!
Tons de Dourum Portuguese Red - Highly scored by US wine guru Robert Parker (90 points). This is soft, smooth and offers a new experience; a taste of Portugal. Aged for six months in oak barrels this blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz.
Ventisquero Pinot Noir - Recommended by the Daily Telegraph and the best selling red at our summer tasting.Lovely soft, yet spicey fruit. Not at all your big chocolatey NZ style, much more refined and makes a great summer lunchtime drinking red.
Fleurie 'La Cadole' - Fleurie has been possibly the most difficult wine to find for our list. I never put a wine on just for the sake of it, so after two years of looking finally Laurent Perrachon’s light, aromatic silky-soft example gave me what I wanted: Classic Gamay fruit vibrant purple colour, not to heavy or too tannic, but with enough body to see you through the meal.
Ch. Pech Redon - from the Languedoc region, not far from Chateauneuf du Pape. If you like Chateauneuf you'll love this!
Louis Fabre Merlot - This 2010 is bursting with youthful, vibrant fruit. Classic soft, smooth plummy Merlot showing a nice deep colour and enough grip to go well with a meal as well as being great on its own.
Ventisquero Sauvignon Blanc - This Sauvignon Blanc could easily be mistaken for a serious Sancerre at well over a tenner. It is restrained and minerally, but still packs a slug of tropical Sauvignon Blanc fruit.
Louis Fabre Sauvignon Blanc - New 2010 vintage just in. One of my favourite times of the wine year is when the first shipment of new vintage young, fresh, crisp Sauvignon Blancs comes in. That was also the pleasure of the previous vintage of this wine ten months ago, showing how well it can mature and has got a hint of minerality, bordering on Poor Man's Sancerre!
Verdejo Rueda White - Superb summer drinking. This has great up front fruit, crisp acidity - almost thirst-quenchingly satisfying.
Verus Chardonnay - A cheeky 15% of this popular Slovenian blend has been aged in new oak barrels giving this ubiquitous varietal a top quality feel; I'm talking Chablis leanness combined with the hallmark Verus purity of fruit.
Domaine des Iles Chablis - Chablis - everyone's favourite wine. Smart classic white from Gerard Tremblay's great Domaine. Think Chablis, think Tremblay! What is left to say about Chablis? At its best, as here, it is a lean, minerally expression of Chardonnay (100% Chardonnay, don't forget)
Domaine Louis Fabre Viognier - Recommended in The Guardian. Classic Viognier! The perfume is light and floral but the palate is more solid and not too oily. Another fine varietal example from Louis Fabre. Could be a wine to try if you don't like Chardonnay and want to try something different.
