The Old Record Shop

Your special song mounted and framed

I’ve been collecting vinyl records since the age of nine, and spent much of my childhood in the record shops of Brighton and Sussex browsing for albums and singles by exotic-sounding bands and singers I had only read about or seen on Top of the Pops.

Much later in life, some friends and I were chatting and joking about the songs that were Number One on the days we were born: some were cool singles by the Beatles or T. Rex while others of us were born to less memorable songs by the likes of Ken Dodd or the Bay City Rollers. Such was pop music back in the day.

That was when the idea of framing records as birthday gifts came to us. We left careers with multinational businesses in sales, retailing and customer services behind us and the Old Record Shop was born in 2004.

We’ve gone a lot further than framing Birthday Number Ones since we started: framed “First Dance” songs for wedding gifts and “special songs” for anniversaries and Valentine’s Day keep us very busy too. And since many modern songs are only released as downloads or on streaming services nowadays, we can now frame the official sheet music for almost any song which we source from the music publishers. This has proved to be almost as popular as framing vinyl records.

It’s much easier to collect and buy old vinyl singles, albums and CDs than when we were kids in the 1970s and doing so for a living feels like the best job a music fan can have, especially when the songs that we frame for our customers and their friends or partners carry so much meaning in their lives: the personalised messages that we mount beneath each record are often very touching.

Perhaps this is why we are just as fussy about finding an original copy of a record in excellent condition as we would be when buying for ourselves. We wish we could deliver overnight but each record is sourced individually and from a wide range of small suppliers so it does take a little while to obtain them sometimes. But birthdays, weddings and anniversaries are our bread and butter and when we know we have to deliver by a certain date we will try and perform miracles to do so if we have to!

Delivery

The delivery time for our framed vinyl records or CDs depends upon how quickly we can locate the record you would like framed; we deliver nearly every order within 14 days of receiving your order and payment.

If we can source the record locally then we can often deliver within 3-4 days. If we use one of our suppliers elsewhere in the UK or overseas then we need to allow for the time the record takes to reach us by post and this may take a little longer.

We deliver framed sheet music within 7 days and often more quickly than this.

We always use a next working day delivery service (Parcelforce Express 24) once a framed record or framed sheet music is complete.

If this is inconvenient then please let us know and we will do all we can to find a way to meet your requirements.

Terms and Conditions

What if the record I would like framed is particularly rare or hard to find?

This does happen - we always look for the original vinyl or CD release and some singles or albums are now rare and highly collectable so they are only available to us at a much higher price than we normally allow for. Occasionally we have to source them from suppliers in the USA, Canada or Australia which also adds to our costs.

In such cases we may need to ask for an additional payment to cover the extra costs that we incur, but we will always tell you first and give you the option of cancelling your order.

Please rest assured that in the unlikely event that we cannot find your record or CD for any reason or cannot fulfil your order at the price quoted, then we will contact you straightaway. If you're not satisfied we will offer a full and immediate refund.

What happens if I want to amend or cancel my order?

Just let us know by telephone or email as soon as possible. While we will always try, each of our framed records is custom-made with a specific record that you have chosen so it is unlikely we will be able to change your order once we have begun work on the framed record.

For the same reason, we cannot cancel your order or issue a refund after we have begun putting your framed record together.

What is your returns policy?

Unless your framed record is damaged in any way, we cannot offer a refund or guarantee that we will accept returned items. This is because each framed record is custom-made to your specific requirements.

Will I need to be home to sign for delivery of my order?

Yes, the delivery will need to be accepted and signed for; if no-one is available to accept delivery then it will be your responsibility to contact the courier company and arrange for re-delivery or collect from your local depot or post office. If a package remains uncollected after a certain number of days, the local courier company may return the package to us. If this happens then we would pass on any re-delivery costs to you so it is important that you let us know if you are going to be away.

We will send you an email with your tracking number and planned delivery date after we have shipped your order, at least one day before delivery.

We will ship the framed record to you as soon as we can, which could be before or after your requested delivery date. Please do tell us if you are away on holiday near this date, or for any extended period, so we can plan the shipping date accordingly.

UK customers only: Parcelforce should send you an email or text message on the day of delivery, if you have given us these contact details. If you're unlikely to be in to sign for delivery then you can contact Parcelforce to re-arrange the day or place of delivery (e.g. with a neighbour or the nearest post office). If you have not done this and are out when Parcelforce attempt delivery then they will usually leave your package with the nearest post office. Most post offices will hold packages for at least one week after which time they may return the package to us here. If this happens then we would pass on any re-delivery costs to you so it is important that you let us know if you are going to be away.

What happens if the framed record is damaged when I receive it?

We pack our framed records with great care using sturdy cardboard packaging especially designed for picture frames so breakages are extremely rare. We do of course accept that breakages are possible. In this unlikely event, we will of course issue a full refund. All we ask is that you let us know in writing by letter or email including a picture of the damaged item to demonstrate what has happened, and return the record or CD to us.
