can be personalised
A handmade leather box with a hinged lid you can personalise in time for Christmas - ideal for men, boys and girls who love horses!
Good gifts for a 3rd Anniversary (Leather being the tradition), big Birthday, Bar Mitzvah, Confirmation or Christening, little boxes are also a popular Wedding ‘favour’ or keepsake for a college reunion or other important event or family celebration.
Our boxes are ethically sourced, fairly traded and handmade using traditional techniques to work the leather which is then coloured and polished, making them wonderfully good to touch, with that distinctive smell of real leather.
These horseshoes are luxuriously lined, hand coloured and made exclusively for us in Dark Brown (with a hint of purple) and Forest Green.
When embossed to personalise, each box becomes a unique present that will give a lifetime of pleasure to the recipient.
Up to six characters (excluding full stops) can be embossed on one line, in Times Roman 22-point (capital letters only). A second line can be added, typically for dates. Please specify when ordering if you would like full stops; but if we're unsure we will contact you directly.
All our leather boxes are hand-made for us, using age-old traditional skills in our own contemporary colours and designs. The dyes used are environmentally friendly, being derived from natural vegetables. As colours can fade if exposed to strong light over a lengthy period, we recommend that the boxes are kept out of bright sunlight.
The carcases of the boxes are made from strong cardboard and the lids are slightly padded, giving them a ‘plush’ feel. The hinged lids are secured by a popper, which means they won't come open when travelling and makes them the ideal weekend or travel jewellery/cufflink box. All the boxes are lined with an Italian fabric we call suede velvet that gives their interiors a luxurious feel and appearance.
We specialise in the art of gold and silver blocking (traditional embossing on leather, now an almost extinct skill) which involves setting brass type into a 'chase' that goes into a heavy hot foiling machine. The lid of a box is secured on a pro-forma shape, which in turn is fastened to the machine’s table. Exact positioning is essential to ensure that the imprint is central and square, before inserting the foil used to give the embossing the desired colour, and lowering the chase to make the impression.
This process calls for considerable skill and attention to detail, giving our boxes an expensive and exclusive feel.
The boxes require no maintenance, other than an occasional wipe. To restore their natural lustre we recommend the use of a high quality neutral or matching coloured leather polish, followed by gentle buffing with a soft cloth. Treated in this way one of our boxes will give many years of pleasure to the owner, as well as serving as a stylish reminder of the generosity of the giver, and that special occasion.
