The oak tree that gave the timber for this distictive board grew on the estate of Powis Castle at Powys in Mid Wales. Each piece of timber has been carefully chosen for character and quality, colour and figure and any insecure bark is then removed.
In the workshop the craftsman planes the timber to take off the rough edges and then hand cuts it to size. The edges are then smoothed to give the characteristic edge. The board is now ready to be hand sanded to a smooth finish and finally finished with oil to bring out the character of the wood and to seal the surface.
