Mefie [mé fíéy meaning my home in Twi] began in 2012 after the founder Samantha White travelled to Ghana and fell in love with the country, the people and the crafts. One day while in the market, an artist commented that ‘for him, painting was not about making money but about having his work appreciated and seen worldwide.’ These words were the springboard to the journey of Mefie, to create a company to showcase the beauty of African crafts and to provide insight into the skill and craftsmanship that goes into each piece.
At the end of 2012, Samantha set up Mefie. The company began with a line of cushions and handbags made in Ghana. Building on the initial success, the team introduced colourful hand-woven raffia totes made in Madagascar and a higher end line using leathers and suede mixed with prints.
The range is designed to fit into your everyday wardrobe while adding an afro-chic twist! The vision is to create a line that can take you from work to play and day to night while still inspired by the iconic prints and weaves popularized across the continent.
