The Contemporary Design Company (Kate & Nia)

Kate has been designing in metal since studying for a HNC in Textiles in 1997/9. With a background in dressmaking and textiles, her designs include patching and piecing, stitching and joining pieces of metal with wire. Recycled biscuit, sweet and cake tins are used to create most of the designs. Antique tins are Kate's current favourite material for jewellery and interior pieces. Her designs are inspired by the home and relationships, sculpural form and detail in nature.

Nia's background is in interior and textile design. She is inspired by the land and explores the various patterns and colours of landscape, while linking these to current moods in interior design. Her work is an on-going journey and she is looking forward, this year to the next phase of her own development, a new range of deep-edge canvases, based on landscape, and increasing her range of commission-based 'Memories' canvases, using customers own photographs to create a personal piece of art.

Kate & Nia both feel very lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world. North Wales has mountains and moors, coast and beaches, gorgeous evening skies and seasonal colours.

Kate & Nia have work in 95 outlets in the UK and a new shop called Kanako in Japan. They are members of Desogn Gap and ACID (Anti Cpoying In Design)
