It could be a picnic rug, baby blanket or throw, all in one day!....Or you could hang it on the wall and just enjoy the beautiful colours.
These two shawls feature a blue from the Sacatinta plant, a dark brown from dried coffee plant leaves, a medium brown from ‘cascada de coco’ the fleshy surrounds of a young coconut, a light brown made from avocado seeds, an orange made from carrots, and a green from the leaves, seeds, branches and trunk of the ‘Chilka’ tree.
The pattern also features unique tie dye designs known as Jaspes or Ikat. No one really knows where this technique originated, though like backstrap loom weaving it’s a technique that’s handed down from generation to generation. It’s a highly specialised technique practiced by very few people, and in the particular community our shawls are produced there is only one jaspe maker that works with natural dyes.
They are everything that a good shawl should be (warm, breathable, unique), and they help accelerate positive change too.
Being 100% cotton, these shawls wash well and get better with age.
Machine wash cool and hang to dry.
