A traditional hand drawing on silk with contemporary conceptions.
Princess Yang was one of the most beautiful ladies in Chinese history (Tang dynasty). There are lots of stories about her in the Beijing Opera, and that is the reason I have drawn her wearing this crown. A long poem, Song of Everlasting Sorrow (長恨歌), was written by the poet Bai Juyi describing Emperor Xuanzong's love for her, and perpetual grief at her loss.
It became an instant classic, known and memorised by Chinese school children.
