Award-winning, seriously good organic botanical cleanser and toner, full of plant-power from Great Elm, searching out grime and giving nourishment to hard-working skin. Make them part of your daily routine, morning and/or evening, to deep cleanse your skin before applying oils, creams or make-up. Soapwort is a fabulously gentle but effective plant (you could even grow it and use it yourself!) and a traditional cleanser as its name relates. We've mixed it with some good nourishing oils which help both to cleanse and feed the skin. Our toners contain NO alcohol, just pure floral waters.
Hazelnut & Soapwort Gentle Cleanser
A gentle cleanser combining the deep cleansing and moisturising properties of soapwort with the fresh, purifying characteristics of lavender in a nourishing honey, apricot and hazelnut base. We use a soapwort root infusion which foams gently. It has been used for centuries as a wash for people, wool and cloth and is still used by archivists to cleanse ancient manuscripts because of its gentle efficacy.
Hazelnut oil and honey offer nourishment and moisture-giving properties. Lavender is the great Roman ‘cleaner’ (hence its name from lavandre, to wash). It has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and healing actions. It is generally calming and soothing, both to skin and mind. Melissa, often known as lemon balm, is generally uplifting and cleansing too a refreshing, stimulating, heartlightening oil and hydrosol.
SKIN TYPE: normal to dry.
METHOD: (a) For deep cleansing, apply thin layer to face and neck, massage gently into skin. Place clean, hot cloth to face and neck and leave for 30 seconds before wiping cleanser off gently. (b) For quick cleansing: spread a little over face and neck and rinse off with warm water.
In either case, follow cleansing with Melissa and Cornflower Gentle Toner, then apply a tiny amount of Intensive Face Care oil, and finally a little Paeony and Honey moisturiser -or maybe Cornflower and Jasmine hydrator.

Melissa & Cornflower Gentle Toner. A blend of aromatic waters distilled from flowers and herbs chosen especially for their clearing, cleansing, calming qualities. Melissa, often known as lemon balm, is generally uplifting and cleansing too a refreshing, stimulating, heart-lightening oil and hydrosol.
Rosewater was known by the ancients as a particularly good curative for skin. It can help with scars, sunburn, insect bites and minor infections. It can also aid in the reduction of ‘thread’ veins and purify the skin. Cornflower is a traditional – yet rarely used these days – skin tonic, with very gentle clearing and tonic properties. So gentle is it that the French use it to treat eye infections.
It is important, given the delicacy of these hydrosols, to keep this Gentle Toner in a cool and dark place, preferably the refrigerator!
SUITS: all skin types, particularly dry/damaged/mature.
METHOD: pour a little onto a cotton pad and wipe gently over face and neck after thorough cleansing.
STORE: cool, dry place. Out of direct sunlight, preferably in the refrigerator.
USE: within 60 days of opening
