A simple balm to help resolve all sorts of skin trouble.
This golden balm smells deliciously of the three skin healing herbs that have been infused in organic, nutritious sunflower oil. The herbs are the classic Three Cs: chamomile, chickweed, calendula. All we add is beeswax, courtesy of the bees in our Soil Association certified garden, to turn it into the most delightful salve that is entirely suitable for all sorts of people from the very young to the very old.
For babies it can be useful for nappy rash, irritated skin, cradle cap, litle scratches or minor sunburn - or even for a simple little massage, when warmed by the fingers.
Chamomile is valued as an antimicrobial agent, and for its antiseptic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory characteristics it's often used internally as well.
The high nutrient content of Chickweed helps heal skin conditions of all kinds the herb is especially useful for eczema and other rashes, minor wounds, pimples and first-degree burns. And you could eat it too (well, in theory!)
Calendula is reputed to be good at reducing inflammation and wound healing as it is an antiseptic and improves blood flow to the affected area. It has also been shown to help with skin problems from ulceration to eczema when used as a salve.
The herbs have been steeped in organic sunflower seed oil at Great Elm for six weeks in sunny spot. This is a balm that has taken its time and should be all the more efficacious for that!
The balm was a great favourite when the latest series of Mistresses was being filmed. Carol Cooper, make-up artist to the stars, says: 'We have found quite a few interesting uses for the baby balm, which we all love, so may need to get 3 more of those, as we are fighting over it! We have re-named it sos cream.'
Be cautious about using any herbs during pregnancy. A patch test is always a good idea.
