Sue Smith Glass Art Designs
Unique House and Garden mosaics indiviudally handcrafted from recycled stained glass and mirrors.
"A reflection of the natural beauty that surrounds us"
Living and working in rural Cornwall has heightened my keen interest in nature and the environment and I have been both influenced and inspired by the different cultures and architecture from some of the countries I have lived in. This combined with my concerns over the ever so important issues of recycling have encouraged me to focus my work in this area.
95% of the glass I use in my work has been recycled only purchasing new glass for reasons of safety, colour or commissioned designs. As all the mirrors I use are also recycled, there are often light scratches and blemishes on the mirror face.
Each item is individually handcrafted and therefore each is unique in colour, size and shape and holds its own singular character and atmosphere.
All of the mosaics are designed for use in the home or garden, using water resistant flexible glues and grouts and can be used as wall panels, which look great in a bathroom or as a feature among climbing plants or can be placed in a gloomy corner not only adding light and interest but because of the reflection, giving the impression of more space and in the garden, creating a hint of "The Secret Garden" behind. The colours of the stained glass catching the light, bring a cheer to any garden during the long winter months.
The stained glass is worked directly onto the mirrors to give better reflection of colour and depth. This then makes the glass change shade in different lights and at different angles, so we can explore colour through light and shadow to create ever changing moods that can stimulate and soothe us.
I am happy to discuss any ideas for designs, colours and other uses as, in the past, I have been commissioned to work on plain glass to create table tops and well covers.
Fittings are supplied with the mirror mosaics.
Due to the fragility of glass I use a courier that has a special 'fragile' service. They are a little more expensive than a standard company but have, to date, carried all the mosaics successfully. Please see the individual shipping price for each item and my terms for return and replacement of damaged items.
Christmas orders
I can take orders for commissions until December 15. Orders from stock need to be place before December 20, for Christmas delivery.
Have a very merry Christmas.
