Clever Ideas - the apron towel by Rachel Carlyle
Here's one thing they don't tell you in ante-natal classes: newborn babies are incredibly slippery, which can make bath times a nightmare. Former web producer Annie Legge, mother of Oscar, recalls, "Between getting him out of the water, wrapping him in a towel and drying him, while keeping him calm and walm, I was ending up a nervous wreck." So she and her friend Clare Collins came up with an idea: a bath towel worn by the parent as an apron to make it easier to lift the baby out of the bath. "My mum had remembered that her own mother had used a towel that hung around her neck leaving her hands free," says Annie. "We made an up-to-date version for ourselves, and our friends all wanted to know where they could get one." The pair, from Bath, then set up the firm Coochi and began selling the Coocoose®, the first of a range of products they are planning for new parents.
