In Bali these gorgeous spheres are worn by pregnant women, soothing the baby in the womb and then later as a familiar sound when they enter the world. They are also thought to ward off evil spirits. In Mayan culture they are known as angel callers.
If worn by a pregnant lady, it is advised to go for a longer chain as it will be closer to the belly.
