Cape Gem is the sole importer to the UK of four talented independent jewellery designers based in Cape Town.

Cape Gem also represents Mielie in the UK.

Our Classic handbags are recognised by the fashion world and have been featured in SHE magazine's June 2009 Issue on Summer chic fashions, the Daily Star's 2009 Valentine gifts for her and played a starring role on the arm of Vanessa Hudgens in High School Musical 3 the movie.

Mielie produces a range of contemporary handbags, accessories and home ware products which are made in a South African Township in Cape Town. Wherever possible, recycled materials are used, and the team (largely women who work from home) always try to make things by hand, thereby creating as many jobs as possible. The money that Mielie (Afrikaans for corn, which the fabric looks similar too when hook weaved onto hessian) makes is ploughed straight back into expanding the business and to support a number of ongoing projects such as creating an organic vegetable garden for the weavers and their families, in addition to providing play and classroom equipment for a pre school in Khayalitsha.
