I’m Lucy, I’m 23 and I run Barnickle Furniture from my Barn Studio at Summerdown Farm in rural East Devon. Barnickle Furniture is a small hand painted furniture business with the aim of transforming unloved items into functional pieces of Art for the Home.
I set up Barnickle Furniture in 2011 after graduating from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London with a degree in Scenic Art. After an amazing but intense training in Theatre painting I began to search for a way I could apply my artistic skills to something that would be appreciated in a more intimate environment and treasured for years to come unlike pieces of the set that would be skipped after just a short run on the stage. Once graduated I returned to my home town in Devon and began painting a couple of old electric cable reels for a friend, it was there and then that I had a light bulb moment and Barnickle Furniture was born!
My friends think I'm a little odd when I get excited about cable reels and dusty unwanted cabinets, but I see the potential to bring them back to life and transform them into desired pieces of furniture that they have been longing to be. I'm proud to say that all of my pieces are recycled or reclaimed and everything is hand painted by myself. A relationship is formed with every piece I paint making them unique and giving a personal quality. My aim is to be bold and innovative with my designs and to push the boundaries of trandition hand painted furniture. I hope you will enjoy my product range.
