Alice’s B & B in Cley –next - the - Sea on the North Norfolk Coast is the perfect spot to combine a totally relaxed break away with your children and your partner or girlfriend with a wonderful portrait session that you’ll be eagerly telling all your friends about.

Alice’s home, ‘ The Studio’ is directly opposite the marshes and a stones throw away from the beach in the beautiful village of Cley.

Here there is an abundance of wonderful settings and ample space for your children to have a totally free time without the restrictions of other rather tight portrait sessions.

‘The Studio’ is rustic, shabby chic but not over precious. It is a home which at the same time has the doors flung wide open for you to relax in. There will be muddy wellies lying outside the frount door alongside the buckets and spades, collections of pebbles and shells and old deckchairs.

In the little walled garden, Mr moss the cat will be relaxing alongside Torto, the little old tortoise who loves having his shell polished with olive oil… there’s a hammock to lie in or treat as a swing / boat ( ! ) and a little Moroccan stove for the grown ups in the evening. Alice understands that along with children comes a certain degree of chaos and untidiness. It is understood that toys from the little playroom will be strewn around the house and garden… pots of paint are there to be discovered… giant rolls of paper exist to create those adventurous communal outdoor paintings, pebbles can be painted, the piano can be played.

Alice loves children and has collected lots of vintage prams, books, pushchairs, toys, (70’s sweet video’s for: ‘ lets have a bit of much earn’t space, time, for the big people! ‘) and games to keep your children amused whilst here. The house allows space for the children to run around and play hide and seek… you can relax feel really at home.

Whilst at ‘ The Studio’, alongside your photo session, Alice would like you to have a break too and is happy to baby sit if you’d like to go out and eat or go to the cinema, have a massage treatment or just go for a walk… each experience is different but anything is possible!!

The area is really really lovely… big open skies, beach huts, lavender marshes, boat trips to see the seals and to run around in the sand dunes. Alice has returned from London after 10 years and knows the area and the people inside out so can advise you on the best pubs, café’s, picnic spots, gillie crabbing locations, power walking groups, massages etc … the list goes on! Alice has a huge collection of art house and Independent DVD’s also for the evenings if you fancy a real wind down.

Cley it’s self is brilliantly located on the coast, mid way between Comer and Wells and Holkham, and near to Holt and Burnham Market for shopping. The beach is great for swimming, has an old rustic beach café, and is 10 minutes walk from the house and can be seen from the bedrooms which have sea views. In the village are two pubs, a great deli, an art gallery, a book shop, and a pottery.

Alice’s home has some wonderful locations for photographing your children. One of the rooms has a lovely brass bed and Osborne and Little wall paper, there’s a huge roll top bath, big wooden table to sit at, lovely old stone steps in the garden where the warm evening light falls. Opposite the house are the reed beds, marshes with lovely pools and lavender beds, shots could be taken on the pebbles in the evening with the sea in the background where the children could have a little tea party with all the vintage teddies and I’m sure we could conjure up a cup cake or two!

Other locations that spring to mind are the dunes at Holkham, the jetties and marshes at Morston, the pools and wonderful mud at Stiffkey, and Blakeney for sand, mud, ice creams and gilly crabbing!!

On arrival, after the initial chaos and drinking tea and eating cake, Alice will show you her portfolio’s which give you the opportunity to really decide on the style and approach to the photographic session that will take place during your stay. Each session is unique and is structured for your own individual needs and tastes.

Alice is happy for the sessions to be a combination of in The Studio and outdoors on a chosen day or to be very informal and organic over the period of your stay. It is also possible to have a structured sitting, especially for the older children. Sessions can be purely in black and white or a combination of black and white and colour.

What is guaranteed is that you will experience a lovely time away and take home wonderfully natural and individual portraits as well as memories of time spent by the sea.
